Looking out over Cedar Breaks National Monument from atop Cedar Mountain at sunset is a beautiful display of what the setting sun can progressively do to a scene.  After the rich, glowing color in the canyon falls into shadow, the next show begins.  Beyond the orange and red exposed sandstone of Cedar Breaks sit layered mountain ridges stretching off to the Western horizon.  As the sun moves lower and eventually below the horizon, the ambient light creates varied hues of blue.    The darkest colors being furthest from the sun’s light [and therefore with the most shadow] and the lightest hues being nearest to the setting sun.  With the detail now gone from the scene, the image takes on a more geometric feel with shape and color dominating the image and creating a more simple expression of the scene.
