Sunrise at the Towers of the Virgin in Zion National Park is a spectacular display of color as the early light begins to blanket its’ high peaks. Featuring West Temple as the highest peak in Zion at more than 4,000 feet above the canyon floor, this section clearly displays the canyon’s geological history through its’ various and multi-hued sandstone layers. To the right of West Temple are other prominent peaks, notably the Sundial and the Alter of Sacrifice.
On this fall morning, the setting moon was a fitting highlight to the blood-like red streaks reminiscent of ancient sacrificial ceremony.
